I can stay with family for the race, which makes it somewhat more affordable.

Basically, I went through a number of marathon calendars for races in the northeast that I could do this year. My priorities for picking the course were as follows:

1) As late in the year as possible, but before I start teaching skiing. (Philadelphia won here)

2) Flat, fast course (Mohawk Hudson won here with Steamtown in the mix)

3) Affordable for travel (Philadelphia lost here, and the Green Mountain marathon won)

4) Low key, uncrowded event where I won't take minutes to get to the starting line

5) Race entry still open - not tough to get into

After taking all of those things into account, Harrisburg seemed to be the best fit. If I'm ready to go a few weeks earlier, I might take a shot at Hudson Mohawk, where I can register race weekend.

It seems that ever since Jamie added my blog to his blogroll that my traffic has tripled. He's a popular guy.

DamonDamonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16393751713576765589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-124160833070692205.post-10929783718438792182008-07-22T06:27:00.000-04:002008-07-22T06:27:00.000-04:00Found your blog through Jamie's. Good luck with the speedwork, I love yasso 800's. And no worries about the weight, it's a natural cycle of ups and downs, but sure can be frustrating sometimes.mindyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14918989722076745348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-124160833070692205.post-48641202796890801702008-07-16T14:07:00.000-04:002008-07-16T14:07:00.000-04:00Awesome plan. It's the simplicity of it that I like. IIRC, most formulae for converting 5K pace to marathon would precict a marathon slightly faster than the lap speed. That is, I think a 3:20 average 800m would predict to about a 3:15 marathon - close to 3:20 but not quite there.

Plus, I also find that it's the workouts themselves - forcing my self to push hard when tired, that add a lot of value. After doing this workout many times, a 7:45 pace should feel really easy. I hope.Damonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16393751713576765589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-124160833070692205.post-63742717976222433912008-07-16T11:49:00.000-04:002008-07-16T11:49:00.000-04:00I too LOVE doing Yasso's having just started back ...I too LOVE doing Yasso's having just started back again recently.
